Senior Citizen Discount Garbage Program

A special Senior Citizen Option is available in Montgomery designed for residents 65 years and older who dispose of small amounts of trash each week. Under this program, residents aged 65 or older may "opt out" of the regular garbage pickup.

Instead of paying the monthly service fee, participants will purchase blue Seniors bags, designed to hold 14-gallons, at a cost of $1.31 per bag to use as needed. Disposal stickers for other items, such as yard waste, will cost $2.50.

Participants in the Senior Citizen Option may set out unlimited amounts of recycling weekly. However, any containers in addition to the 14-gallon bags, such as yard waste or regular garbage bags, would require a sticker to be attached.

Before signing up for the program, seniors should evaluate their individual circumstances to determine if the Senior Citizen Option would be the most cost effective to dispose of their trash.
